From the November 1904 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science soon causes us to exclaim with the Psalmist, "Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless his holy name."

I could not enumerate the many blessings which Christian Science has brought to our home in the last six years. Before that time I seemed, to myself at least, to be without hope, and without God in the world. I was reared in an orthodox church, and have great love for the many good people in it, but after the death of a dear sister and the failure to get any consolation from my friends in the church, or my Bible, I became greatly dissatisfied and was losing the little faith I had in God's power and goodness. At this time Christian Science was presented to me, and I had a secret longing that perhaps this new religion would answer the many perplexing questions concerning the universe and man, that I had always been asking myself. I accordingly obtained the text-book, Science and Health, and began to study it diligently. I was incredulous as to the physical healing and began its study simply in the hope of finding a more satisfying religion. In a short time, however, I found myself applying the rules of Christian Science, and was joyfully surprised to find that its statements could be proven. My first impulse was to proclaim this from the house-top, but I was told that this was zeal "not according to knowledge," and that "It is well to wait till those whom you wish to benefit are ready for the blessing" (Science and Health, p. 238).

I began to attend the Christian Science services at once, and how often do I recall times when I felt scarcely able to walk to the hall where the services were then held, and after them I returned home lighthearted as a schoolgirl. I afterwards realized that my body was being transformed by the renewing of my mind, as the Bible teaches.
