As I have been helped so much and so often by articles in the Journal and Sentinel, I should like to give my testimony to what Truth is doing for me. I realize to some extent the progress I have made, and I do not care to think of what my condition would have been if I had not been led to Christian Science when I was.
For many years I had been living as a man of the world, guided mainly by the lusts and passions of the natural man, and I was beginning to reap what I had sown. Through belief in the law of contagion I was suffering from a claim of blood poison. The physician who treated me said I must take medicine for two years, and could give me no hope of a permanent cure. About this time I attended a Christian Science lecture with my brother, and the evidence presented by the lecturer convinced me that he was speaking the truth. As we were going home my brother asked me what I thought of it. I replied, "It is true, it is true, I know it is true." I could not doubt that Christian Science had helped others, but would it help me? that was the fear which held me in bondage. I thought I had sinned beyond pardon, and could not be helped by any system that had the word "Christian" attached to it.
However, after some weeks had passed and I had had many struggles with pride and self, I determined to see a practitioner. I had a great many questions I wanted answered, but the first answer I got precluded the necessity of asking more, for I had the privilege presented to me of finding out for myself. The practitioner kindly lent me a copy of Science and Health, which I returned in a few days to get one of my own. In a short time I lost the desire for tobacco which I had used for seventeen years, and it has never returned, nor have I used any whiskey or medicine since that time, now two years and five months past.
