Testimonies of Healing

I first heard of Christian Science in 1896, at Dayton...

From the September 1904 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I first heard of Christian Science in 1896, at Dayton, O., where a dear friend was striving to walk in the narrow way At that time, however, my health was fairly good, and I thought, too, I never could be as unselfish as this friend. My family moved to Hamilton, and after coming here my health began to fail. I was pronounced a dyspeptic by a prominent physician, and from that time on had very severe stomach ailments.

Another disease was also added to my already abundant supply. This was a severe case of anemia. I did not look as if I had any blood, I was so pale, and with this I was subject to neuralgia and rheumatism whenever the weather changed. The stomach trouble increased in severity, until one year ago a very severe attack came on I thought this had been cured by medicine, but I was constantly afraid of the next paroxysm and I wrote and asked my dear friend if she thought Christian Science could cure me T told, her all my troubles, and she replied immediately and sent me the name and address of a Christian Science practitioner.

Even then I seemed reluctant to go to Christian Science Ever since I can remember I had been troubled with a pain and soreness in my left side, which I had been taught to believe was a sure sign of consumption, and it seemed as if the fear of that disease was always with me. until last winter, during the coldest weather, the dreaded cold was contracted, and settled on my lungs. I did not cough much at first, but my lungs were very sore, and then began the battle between Truth and error. I wanted to yield to Christian Science, but error still had me bound in shackles of iron. I had no peace through the day, nor even when I was asleep. One night my dreams were changed. It seemed as if I were out doors and a man came up to me and handed me a Christian Science paper. I wakened, and shortly after this I commenced to cough very hard. Blood came from both nose and mouth. While in this condition, my medicine was changed seven times, all to no effect.
