While I do not feel warranted in saying I am a Christian Scientist in the truest and best sense, I can truthfully claim that I am a believer to the extent that I have employed no other treatment for the physical ailments from which I have suffered during the past six years. About six years ago, I had a sudden attack of illness which came in the night. I suffered intensely for hours, and when morning came I applied for the first time to a Christian Science practitioner. To my delight I was quickly relieved. I had had similar attacks before, and always employed a physician, but had never obtained relief so quickly. I was then convinced that Christian Science healing was a reality.
The demonstration of which I now wish to speak, and which seemed to me the most wonderful of any that had ever come under my immediate notice, came to me a few weeks ago. A small pimple appeared on my face. I thought little of it, although it was unusual. Soon three more appeared, and rapidly developed into sores. I was a sight to behold, and my discomfiture was the greater as my vocation brought me constantly before the public. In great distress I went to my barber, only to learn that what I most feared was indeed true. He examined my face carefully, then frankly admitted that I had barber's itch. Several of my acquaintances had been thus afflicted, and in every case it was many months before they were healed. One barber who looked at my face said that he had known a case to last a year, and no one gave me any encouragement that I could be rid of the disease short of several months. In my distress I called on a member of my family for help. He told me to use none of the material applications that had been recommended, but to rest the case with Truth, and my face would soon be well. In four or five days I was perfectly healed. My friends were simply amazed. To me it was a marvelous demonstration of the truth of Christian Science, to which I testify with a grateful heart.— Worcester, Mass.
