About fifteen years ago I had a severe attack of cold on my lungs, with lame back, and stiff neck. I was unable to take a long breath on account of the pain, and had sharp, painful thrusts take me in the back, neck, and lungs, accompanied with fever, chills, etc. I finally asked my wife to give me a Christian Science treatment, as she at that time had received considerable benefit from Christian Science and I had read a little in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Knowing that I had been accustomed to use material remedies for such attacks, she asked if I did not want medicine, but I insisted that I wanted her to give me Christian Science treatment, for this was a good opportunity to test its efficacy. She complied with my wishes, although it was nearly if not quite her first experience in this work.
During the treatment I went to bed without the expected chill, and soon I was perfectly free from any ache or pain, but the thought came, If you move you will find that the old conditions will re-appear. I, however, gradually began moving and taking deep breaths, and found that I was perfectly free.
It was glorious; but the thought came that it would not last. I met this error with, No! No! the power that has done this is good!, and so is the healing; I will not distrust it.
