A RAIN SONG

From the August 1905 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My doctrine shall drop as the rain, as the small rain upon the tender herb.—Deuteronomy.

The rain falls ceaselessly,—the soft, spring rain!
By day and night it taps the window-pane.
It says, "Come, waken, flowers one and all!
Come, waken, leaves upon the alder tall;
Rouse up, ye grasses, for the rain doth call:
The spring is here,—the gentle, welcome spring!
And now is come the time for blossoming."

The rain falls ceaselessly—the Spirit's rain!
On earth-bound sense it falls, and falls again.
It says, "Come, waken, sleeping ones! for lo
The heavenly winds are wakening, and they blow;
The spring is here,—Truth's joyous, boundless
spring!
And now is come love's time for blossoming."
