LIGHT ETERNAL

From the February 1906 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Clouds fill the skies and hide the blue,
Their leaden pall no light breaks through.
Swift falls the rain, keen blows the wind,
E'en storm-bird hastes to shelter find.
All nature seems depressed and gray,
And joyous sunshine far away;
But up above this seeming night
The sun is shining, warm and bright,
Flooding the universe with light.

So life, at times, seems dark and drear,
Cloud-troubles hover thick and near.
The chilling winds and drenching rains
Of our adversities and pains
Oft seem to shut out all the light
Of hope, and of despair make night;
But mortal troubles far above,
God is descending like a dove,
Flooding His universe with Love.
