It is with a deep feeling of gratitude, and a hope that this testimony may benefit some poor sufferer, that I now write. Five years ago I underwent a surgical operation for a growth in the breast, but without success, as it soon returned and was worse than before. A second operation was then performed, after which I was in a still more critical condition. As part of the muscles of the shoulder and arm had been removed, I suffered constant pain and was very weak. I had no appetite, could not rest at night, and grew weaker and weaker as one day of suffering followed another. As a last resort, a change of climate was suggested. I then came to California, to the home of my uncle, whose family are Christian Scientists. I began reading Science and Health and attended church with them. Very soon my strength and appetite began to return, and all the old pain gradually disappeared and has never returned. Later, I took treatments for female troubles, from which the doctors had failed to give me the slightest relief. In one year I went home on a visit, a well and happy woman. Now I do all my own work and my sewing, and never have to think that I have only half the muscles in one arm, for that arm and shoulder are as strong as the other; and above all, I have learned that God is my strength.
I am very grateful to God for His love and ever-watchful care, and to dear Mrs. Eddy for her life of devotion to mankind.—Los Angeles, Cal.
