Testimonies of Healing

From the June 1908 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: . . . For thou, Lord, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands." These words of the psalmist very clearly explain my feelings about my most wonderful healing. Some years ago I went to a hospital and was operated on by one of the most noted surgeons in the United States, but I was pronounced incurable and sent home, my husband being told that I could not live more than four months. I, however, got along for about a year, when another trouble, a serious eruption, developed. For that I tried every remedy of which I could hear, and also took X-ray and violet-ray treatment for about two years, but grew steadily worse. At last I was unable to go for any more treatments, as I could not wear proper clothing for the street. A skin specialist was then called, who said he could not understand how I had lived so long in such a condition. In accordance with his advice I went to a hospital where he was on duty with several other eminent specialists, and these doctors tried many experiments to check the disease. Several times I was cauterized severely with a caustic pencil, and finally, after a consultation, the surgeons decided on "heroic treatment." I was cauterized with hot irons in fifteen places, but the only apparent result of this was an aggravation of the disease. After being in the hospital two months I was sent home to die at my leisure, with severe stomach trouble added to the other.

At this time many of my friends visited me, and some spoke of Christian Science, but I did not see how it could do me any good after so much surgery had failed. My dear pastor came to talk it over with me one afternoon, and he advised me to try Christian Science, as nothing else had done me any good. I sent for a practitioner, and she encouraged me by telling me that all things are possible with God. I took treatment about six months, and I was healed! I have ever since (almost three years) been saying, "Thank God for Christian Science." Since that time I have been called upon to bear many sorrows, such as the sudden death of my dearly loved husband, having to give up my home, and finding friends upon whom I had relied for comfort to be false; but through Christian Science, the knowledge that divine Love is ever present has enabled me to overcome all obstacles. I am a member of a branch church, and had the privilege of uniting with The Mother Church in Boston at the time of the dedication of the new edifice.

I rejoice in my heart every day at my knowledge of Christian Science, and at the power given our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, to restore this healing truth to a suffering world.—
