About three years ago I was said to have gall-stones...

From the November 1909 issue of The Christian Science Journal

About three years ago I was said to have gall-stones, which caused me great pain. I had treatment from our family physician, but the trouble appeared again after a short time, and I had to take large doses of an opiate in order to deaden the severe pain. One day, when I thought I could hardly live on with such pain, a relative who is a Christian Scientist called upon me. He advised Christian Science treatment, and at my request sent word to a practitioner. Half an hour later,—the time it took the message to reach the lady,—such a restful feeling came over me that I fell asleep and slept well all through the night, until the next morning. I then felt strong enough to get up, and also was able to attend to my housework, and even to go to the kind practitioner, under whose care I remained a few weeks longer. I have never had an attack of gallstones since, and am healthy and of good cheer.

I am striving with a cheerful heart, and with a feeling of great gratitude to God for our dear Leader. Mrs. Eddy, to assimilate more and more of the teachings of Christian Science through the assiduous reading of the Herold, and have myself been able to overcome a few ailments through the understanding which I have gained. In short, Christian Science has given me a religion which I have found to be true Christianity.
