My heart is full of deepest thankfulness to God, and of gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for the revelation of Christian Science. I was led to Christian Science while in the greatest extremity. I had been sick for two years. Physicians and sojourns" at watering-places had brought but temporary relief. Then I heard that many sick people had been healed through the reading of Science and Health. I read this wonderful book, which is a declaration of Truth, and became well in a very short time: yet the spiritual blessing which I have received through Christian Science is infinitely greater than the physical healing.
Much sorrow had attended my life; I had sought long for an explanation of the problem of evil, but the old theology and philosophy gave no satisfactory answer. At last I became quite desperate; my greatest desire was to be released as soon as possible from this hopeless existence. I then thought this could only come through death, but my deliverance came through the truth as revealed in Christian Science, the recognition of which was indeed wonderful and filled me with such joy as I had never before experienced. I seemed to be lifted above everything earthly and transported into God's kingdom; but I had to come down from the mount of transfiguration into the valley, so as to take up my part of the work toward the overcoming of evil. Since then I have had many glorious proofs of how divine Love keeps us from danger and destroys sin and disease. I therefore confidently go on my way, knowing that God, divine Love, is my shepherd, and that I shall not want.
