Testimonies of Healing

Words are inadequate to pay the debt of gratitude I owe...

From the June 1911 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Words are inadequate to pay the debt of gratitude I owe to Christian Science, or to Mrs. Eddy its Discoverer. It is over eleven years since I became interested in this truth I was drawn to it by seeing my husband quickly healed of what seemed to be quite a serious rheumatic trouble. At that time I was very much of an invalid, having suffered for years with severe headaches and neuralgia which would last from a day to a week at a time. One winter I was rarely free for a single day from one of these ills. I also had stomach trouble in one of its worst forms, although all the while taking medicine and trying the different prescribed diets; but all to no avail.

For twenty years I had been afflicted with two chronic diseases from which, the doctors said, I could hope for nothing but temporary relief. I was occasionally sick in bed for weeks at a time, and once my recovery was wellnigh despaired of. I rallied, however, but my faith in medicine had very largely gone, and I resolved to try Christian Science. I at once called on a local practitioner, told her my troubles, and asked her if she could help me. The reply was that God could, for nothing is impossible with Him. She explained God's relation to man in a way that was new to me, but which gave me fresh courage, and I started for home with the feeling that there was a chance for me yet. I threw away all my medicines, and have never taken any since. I was healed at once, although I continued the treatment three weeks.

I have relied wholly on Christian Science since, and it has never failed me. I had been a church-member for a number of years, but did not understand the Bible, reading it mainly from a sense of duty. Now I love to read it, and the Bible and Science and Health are my daily companions. I praise God for His great goodness to me; I have learned that He is Love, and that He is All-in-all. I am also truly grateful to Mrs. Eddy, who has made possible an understanding of this marvelous truth of which Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
