It is with deep gratitude for the wonderful benefits received through Christian Science that I send my testimony. The change physically is truly wonderful, but I have not words in which to express my gratitude for the spiritual, this uplift into a new world, and for the truth that is sustaining me every day.
Christian Science was brought to my attention through a business friend who had been healed of a disease which I thought was to be his end. I was so delighted to see him and to hear him tell of how Christian Science had raised him from so helpless a condition, that I was strongly impressed to seek this truth. I purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and shortly thereafter started away on a business trip for the West. I kept thinking all the time of the book, and was eager for the time to come when I could be by myself and read without interruption. I retired to my berth at half past seven, and started to read. For at least a week I read almost continuously, some days taking only one meal, as each page contained so much truth for me that the next was already a part of the one I was reading. As I read, I saw the Bible opened. After years of study in the Sunday school, I was now understanding it for the first time, and it brought a great rejoicing, because I had always thought the Bible belonged to a bygone age. I began to feel the nearness of our Father-Mother God; His loving presence brought a great light to my consciousness, and for a time the material sense of existence seemed to fade away.
After absorbing this truth, and eagerly striving for more during the week of my first reading of Science and Health, I found myself healed of several ills which had for years given me much annoyance. My eyesight was restored, so that glasses were laid away. An oculist had told me I had defective vision, that one eye was more affected than the other, and that I should every year have stronger lenses, but my healing showed the nothingness of such a theory. I was healed of the tobacco habit, although for twenty years I had smoked heavily. My physician had said I had "smoker's heart" and was otherwise affected from nicotine; but this habit was instantaneously healed, without a moment of inconvenience, the same as if it had never existed, and I have never had any desire to return to it. I was also healed of chronic biliousness, and there has been no return of this ailment.
