I came into Christian Science in October, 1911, from a motive of investigation. I felt from a child that we were not being taught the truth of the Bible, and was therefore in a state of dissatisfaction with the orthodox teaching. To me it was so full of inconsistencies that I could not make it seem reasonable. Although I did not come to Christian Science for physical healing, I was in great need of this truth. At the time of a severe operation for an abnormal growth, it was my happy lot to realize the beautiful and practical value of Mrs. Eddy's teaching, although it was some eight or nine months afterward that I became interested in it. On reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," I found that throughout it voiced my convictions, and showed me it was indeed the truth of being; consequently, there was no other path for me to follow.
Before I had been reading Science and Health two weeks, I was healed of a hip-joint trouble which was the result of an injury when a child, and for which many material remedies had been tried, but with only temporary relief. I thought at first that this healing would also be only temporary, but I am thankful to say it has been permanent, as considerable time has passed without a return of the ailment. One after another many ills fell away from me, among them the pains and weakness which resulted from the operation, also a serious kidney disorder for which I was to undergo another operation.
For five months I had been wearing a belt for relief of pressure, and I felt very uncomfortable without it. At times I tried to give up wearing it, but not until I began to study Science and Health was I able to do so; then I simply forgot all about it. I was also healed of catarrh, neuralgia that was very severe at times, a throat affection, an injured wrist, and torn ligaments of a foot. About the same time I broke my glasses, which I had worn for seventeen years, and through my understanding of the power of Truth I was able to overcome the eye trouble in about five or six weeks.
