I have received so many blessings from Christian Science that I feel it my duty to tell of them. When my husband became interested in this teaching through a kind friend where he was employed, I was doubtful as to what it could do, for he was physically in a bad condition, after having tried many doctors and medicines. What I could not see was, why God would not answer our prayers just as readily as those of Christian Scientists, for we were active in all the church work and were striving our best to live Christian lives. I had taken little interest in Christian Science, as I had never heard much about it; but I am thankful that God did answer our prayers, not in our way but in His. Before two weeks were past I was ready, for I knew that there was no more than temporary relief from material remedies, as the doctor said when I begged him to tell me if I was never going to get rid of trouble or be any better. He was very kind, and I am grateful for what he did for me, as it was the best that materia medica could do.
I was healed in Christian Science of organic heart disease, which I had had from the time I was thirteen years old. I had been under the care of several doctors and two specialists, and had taken the "rest cure" for six months; but after that for a long time I had to be very careful, although it seemed to give me some relief for a few years. Then for four years before taking up Christian Science the trouble kept on growing worse, so that I was in constant pain. Attacks of unconsciousness would come on, and leave me in a bad condition, the last being so serious that I cried out, "Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief." The Christian Science practitioner came, and I seemed to feel better at once. She asked if I would come to her the next day. I said I did not think I had the strength; but she told me that God was the source of my strength, and so I went.
I had worn glasses constantly, having been told that the left eye was no good to me. The right one also was very weak, and I suffered much with headache. I did not speak to the practitioner about my eyes, yet in a week's time that law was broken, and I have not worn glasses since. The heart trouble also disappeared, but I continued to take treatment for a number of weeks, as an operation for appendicitis and other ailments several years ago had left me no better; in fact, I was getting worse. In every way I think I was physically in as bad condition as any one could be, and the doctor told me afterward that he was grateful Christian Science could do what he knew no medical means had ever done.
