In studying Jesus' query, "Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?" I felt as if I was classed among the nine, for it has been about eight years since I came to Christian Science for healing, and although I have been very thankful, I have never before sent in a testimony. For a long time I had a desire to unite with The Mother Church, but as I could not demonstrate much for myself, this seeming lack prevented me from taking the step. Every winter since I was a little child I had suffered extremely from chilblains, my feet swelling so much that I would not be able to wear shoes for weeks at a time, and I thought that so long as I could not overcome these little things I was not fit to be called a Christian Scientist. In the fall of 1912, however, the thought came to me that if I waited until I overcame everything, I never would be a member of the church, so I sent in my application, and was received in November. All fear of the chilblains left me, and every time I would think of the approaching winter with its cold and snows, the thought of the protecting power of Truth would come, and sure enough, I did not have the chilblains, for the first time in thirty years or more. This taught me that if we are obedient, the results will surely follow. The healing has been permanent.
Although I am thankful for the healing I have received, I am even more so for the spiritual understanding of the Bible as gained through the study of Science and Health. I have never lived, except for a short time, where there were other Scientists, so my greatest pleasure is in studying the Lesson-Sermons and our Christian Science literature. For all these blessings I am indeed grateful, and thankful to those who contribute such helpful articles to the periodicals.— Surprise, Neb.
