A very dear friend came to me on Aug. 15, 1911, and asked me to try Christian Science for the healing, and for that alone, as at that time I did not know it was of value for anything else. It was not very long, however, before I discovered that it was the human mind which was diseased, and not the body, and that when the mind is healed the body will respond.
At the above date I was for the third time making preparation to undergo an operation. I had been ailing for twenty-seven years and had tried twenty-two physicians. One physician said I had an abnormal condition of the kidneys, and various diseases were named by the other doctors. A specialist in Philadelphia said it was absolutely necessary to operate at once, because poisoning would set in. I tried everything I knew of, including osteopathic treatment for three years, and all having failed, I felt there was nothing left but an operation or death. Suddenly I was taken very ill, and it was at this time that I heard of Christian Science through a friend who brought me a Sentinel, which I promised to try to read.
In a week I was able to sit up. I tried several Christian Science practitioners, and was helped for a time, but was not healed. I was therefore not able to go on with my work, but I rejoice to say my freedom has come. I am better than I have ever been, although sometimes, when there is a sense of overwork, for two or three days I do not feel so well; but this is not always so. I consider that the truth has done a marvelous work for me, for which I am truly grateful, and it gives me great pleasure to tell of this proof of what the understanding of God has done.—Easton, Pa.
