It is with a feeling of sincere gratitude that I tell of the many blessings which have come to me through Christian Science. While waiting in the reception room of an American lady dentist I found a copy of Science and Health, in which I became very much engrossed; but later, under the pressure of various activities I lost recollection of it. A long time afterward —I was then going through a dark period of my life—an acquaintance drew my attention to the teachings promulgated by Mrs. Eddy, from which she had, as she said, derived much comfort and spiritual help. She then gave me a copy of the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, which I read much and with a great deal of enjoyment. I also attended the meetings, but without seeming able to grasp the underlying thought. of the teachings.
Still later, when adverse circumstances were impending and I was filled, with great anxiety with regard to the mental and physical recovery of a dear relative whom the physicians had succeeded in relieving but slightly. I asked that Christian Science treatment be given to him, and From then on Christian Science became lo me a fountain of living water, the means of my salvation. The patient guidance and care bestowed by the practitioner, my brother's steady improvement, my earnest endeavor to walk in the way of truth, and my gradually increasing realization of God's ever-presence and omnipotence, ever ready to fulfil in our behalf the Scriptural promise, "Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee," —these experiences brought about a change in my thought, making all things new.
The sense of anxiety disappeared before the light of Truth. Faith and understanding, hope and patience, and a flow of gratitude for the blessings daily added, filled my consciousness with a sense of life and strength. I have also experienced the wonderful healing power of divine Love in my own case. As the result of a fall I broke both my legs, one at the knee and the other at the ankle. I again asked for Christian Science treatment, which was taken up by the practitioner. Plaster casts were, however, applied by two physicians. During the following period, opportunity was afforded me to acquaint myself with the various writings of our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and also to devote myself to the study of the Lesson-Sermons and of the text-book. This indeed meant entertaining angels, for peace and joy increased in me with every day, and the fear of having to walk through life on crutches disappeared. As a result the healing process went on beautifully.
