To say that I am thankful for...

From the October 1916 issue of The Christian Science Journal

To say that I am thankful for what Christian Science has done for me is but feebly to express my feeling. This teaching has helped me and mine most wonderfully, in sickness, in sorrow, and during a mental strain that at times seemed unendurable. The passing on of my husband meant not only a need of help for the healing of sorrow, but also of a broken heart, as we had always been very happy. Previous to this I had had two years' study of the Bible in connection with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and I knew immediately that it was necessary to work, and work hard, as the problem seemed a big one; but I also knew that "God is no respecter of persons," and so began by asking for understanding and wisdom that God would lead me into His truth, and teach me.

For several weeks I declared the truth to the best of my understanding and worked with a friend who is a practitioner, till finally the light began to pierce through the seeming clouds of darkness. With it came a stronger determination to know the truth than I had ever felt before, together with the conviction that God had helped me many times and would do so again. I had learned for the first time what obedience meant and wanted to be obedient to God's laws. Help came from every direction and conditions, began to improve; my prayers were being answered. We have been and are being cared for, thus proving God's protection. I am quite happy, and thankful to say progress is being made every day.

Nearly four years ago, my little girl was healed in three treatments of stomach trouble, supposed to have been inherited. This was one of the first proofs of the healing power of Truth in our home. I am deeply grateful for our text-book, which is certainly a "Key" to the Scriptures. Previous to studying this book I never even read the Bible, but now it is studied every day.
