A few years ago, in 1911, I became eager to know the truth concerning Christian Science. I had heard of Mrs. Eddy's teaching for years, but it had often been spoken of in derision. About ten years ago I read Science and Health, and at that time imagined I was giving the book a fair reading; but I know now that it was read with a great sense of hostility, and that through a habit of clinging tenaciously to the material I failed to grasp the spiritual import of its teachings.
It was not until I observed some of the glorious effects of Christian Science on the lives of relatives and friends that I experienced a real longing to know the truth. I then laid aside all prejudice and began to study Science and Health earnestly, and by the aid of divine Mind I have been enabled to understand and live many of the precious truths taught therein. The Bible, which to me had-been a most revered and much studied book, is now tenfold more precious. Indeed, in the last few years I have studied little else than the Bible and the Christian Science literature, and I study the Lesson-Sermon daily.
I have proved the efficacy of God's healing power, as demonstrated by the teaching of Christian Science, many times. Neuralgia, sleeplessness, and other ailments have been entirely overcome. The greatest physical affliction of my life has been headaches of the severest sort. The gradual increase in the severity and frequency of these attacks, together with a false belief in heredity, had given me the annoying thought that I could never be free from this malady; but since I put away all material remedies and resolved to depend wholly on divine Mind, I have had few attacks, and those have been speedily overcome. I know that God will give me complete victory over this trouble.
