Over five years ago I turned to Christian Science for the physical healing alone, as I never attended church or read the Bible. I had an abnormal abdominal growth which caused me years of suffering and constant pain, and which according to medical science could only be removed by an operation; but to this I would not consent. I knew nothing about Christian Science, but a lifelong friend advised me to try it, so ' the next day I called on a practitioner, who told me how to study and sent me to the library for a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I went to church, also began to study the literature. Material as was my consciousness at that time, I nevertheless saw that the Christian Scientist had something I lacked, and I felt a great uplift.
Little by little I began to lose the sense of physical suffering, but there was no apparent change in the growth, except that it seemed to become larger. I was so humiliated and sensitive about my appearance because of it, that I prayed for it to be removed more than for the real healing, which of course should come in consciousness first. I came to the point where I realized that no such thing could separate me from the love of God. The most beautiful part of my healing is that a year before the growth disappeared I knew that I was healed; that is, my consciousness was healed of all sense of disease, fear, and discord. At that time the uplifting thought from Science and Health (p. 468), "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation," came to me so clearly and brought me such assurance and happiness that it seemed as though a heavy rock had been lifted from me, and I no longer felt the terrible weight which had accompanied the disease. From then on I also realized perfect health physically.
Just about a year later, my healing was made manifest in the flesh and the growth disappeared, at first slowly, then quickly vanishing from sight. This change took place within a period of a few weeks. The remarkable part of my healing was that there was no manifestation of any kind from this abnormal condition, which proves true the wise man's words: "I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be forever: nothing can be put to it, nor anything taken from it."
