In Isaiah we read, "Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord." It is with a grateful heart that I tender this testimony of my wonderful healing in Christian Science as a witness to this truth. I came from Barbadoes, British West Indies, some sixteen years ago. Through the failure of an operation, my husband had become blind and I parsed through many bitter afflictions. This brought me to my knees in prayer for help and guidance to a God I believed was punishing me for my good. Now I know it was divine Love who in answer to prayer led me to America.
From infancy I was troubled with asthma, which increased in severity as I grew to womanhood. Physicians did their best for me, and I am grateful for their untiring kindness, but this ailment held me in bondage at intervals for fifty-six years. Soon after my arrival in the United States I heard of Christian Science through one of my sons, and a practitioner invited me to attend a Wednesday evening meeting. The testimonies that were given arrested my attention, and I never doubted that Christian Science was the truth which Jesus taught and practised, the truth which was to set me free.
One day I was taken suddenly with asthma, and so severe was the attack that I thought the end was near. My daughter telephoned to the practitioner, who came and took me to her home, although I could with difficulty walk the short distance to the car. She lovingly explained the relation between God and His idea, man, and while she was treating me I fell asleep. I awoke healed, and have not had the slightest symptom of this disease for fourteen years. From the date on which I w as healed, Feb. 2, 1901, I have gone out in the most inclement weather without suffering in the least from this trouble. I am very grateful for this healing, but it is as nothing compared to the spiritual understanding I have gained through faithful study of the Bible and our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.
