Testimonies of Healing

Some years ago I took up the...

From the October 1917 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Some years ago I took up the study of Christian Science when all material remedies had failed me. I had been given up by many doctors and specialists, who had told me they could do nothing more for me as I was in the last stages of tubercular disease and also had an incurable trouble which an operation might relieve if my condition would permit one. I was a cripple from rheumatism, and the doctor told me he had given the last drug known for the disease, but without avail.

From a child my eyes had been weak. The oculist at home said he could not help me, and I was taken to a specialist in Paris, France, where I had three weeks' treatment, which left them in a serious condition. I then went to London, England, to meet another specialist, who after treating me for four weeks used the X-ray, and then told me that I was born with weak eyes; that he would give me a prescription for glasses, but I must avoid the sunlight and not do any reading. He said the glasses might make my sight hold out for two years, but that then I would be blind. Without the glasses I was in darkness, and could not even find my way around. I was very unhappy, for I had given up all drugs and was waiting for the end.

Then Christian Science was brought to my attention by a friend, who directed me to a practitioner. In a few days treatment was asked for, but I had no faith in it until the night of the second treatment, when the pillows were all put in their places and I lay straight in bed for the first time in years. After the next treatment the so-called incurable trouble left me never to return, and soon I was in good health. The healing of my eyes was slow, but there was improvement from the first. My healing was complete before I had read the book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," for I could not hold it or even see to read it for some days. After I was able to read, it became very dear to me.
