Three years ago I turned to Christian Science for help, and received it immediately. For seven years previous to that time I had suffered from a most distressing form of intestinal trouble. The last physician consulted said that there was a most serious condition present and that I could never be well again; the most that could be done was to give me temporary help. I was unable to eat anything without suffering, although I had tried all sorts of diets.
As a last resort I turned to Christian Science. I had tried to read Science and Health, but it seemed to aggravate every condition, and not understanding what this upheaval was I decided to ask a practitioner for help; so I visited one whose name had been given to me. After giving me a treatment, she told me to go home and eat what I wanted; that food had no power to hurt me, for God. good, is the only power. This was to me the "good tidings of great joy," for I saw I had never really believed that God is the only power, as I had always believed food had power to harm me. I went home and ate heartily, clinging steadfastly to what the practitioner had just told me and trying to trust with all my heart in God. I felt no ill effects from so doing, and since that time have been able to eat whatever I wanted. Every trace of the disease has left me, and I am entirely well.
After my healing I began an earnest study of Christian Science to try to understand what had healed me, and I have found to my joy that in proportion as I have understood the Principle I have been able to demonstrate it. I am grateful for the physical healing, but far more so for a religion which teaches and demonstrates that God is the only power.—Washington, D. C.
