Testimonies of Healing

I have long desired to express...

From the August 1917 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have long desired to express my gratitude for Christian Science through the columns of our periodicals, in the hope that it may be of help and encouragement to others. Nine years ago I was as bitterly prejudiced against Christian Science as any one could be, but when my father was instantaneously healed of bronchitis, after the doctors had given him up, I was unspeakably thankful to have him alive and well, though secretly fearing that the means of his healing was the work of the devil. I decided to give the subject a thorough investigation, and accordingly began a systematic study of the Bible, together with Science and Health and other books by Mrs. Eddy.

For two years the battle between my false material sense and the truth was waged unceasingly, and, as must always be the case, the truth was victorious at last. The victory came in my first demonstration. I decided that if the Principle of Christian Science was true, then it was true for me as well as for anybody else, so I would put it to the test. For some years I had worn glasses constantly, under the order of one of New York's best oculists; but I determined to lay them off and try to realize that my sight was really in God, who made it perfect eternally. The result was that I got along without them beautifully from the first day, and have never used them since.

After this I began to attend church, and I could not begin to tell of the healings, physical and mental, that have come to me since then. My baby girl was born under Science treatment, and has never tasted medicine. Two years ago she fell from a proch, striking on a sharp stick which entered the abdomen in such a way as to leave no mark on the surface except a raised place about the size of a hickory nut. Not knowing about the stick, I thought of rupture at once, and called a practitioner. The baby was screaming when I called over the telephone, but she was soon quieted. She had but the one treatment that day, and was up playing about, apparently as well as ever.
