Testimonies of Healing

[Translated from the French]

My gratitude for what Christian Science...

From the August 1917 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My gratitude for what Christian Science has done for us is unbounded. Six years ago, when a friend first spoke to me about this teaching, I was to sense unhappy, discouraged, and suffering from liver complaint. For ten years I had been under the care of five physicians, considered among the best of the profession, and had used the Vichy cure every summer, but the trouble had been steadily growing worse. I had lost all faith in physicians and drugs. As for religion, I professed none. Since I was eighteen years of age I had given myself especially to the study of philosophy and of world religions. For years I took courses at the Sorbonne and attended lectures treating of both these subjects. I sought God, Truth, but the deep study of the various theories known to mankind brought no satisfaction. This is why the first endeavors of friend to interest me in Christian Science found me little inclined to investigate what I believed to be but another religion, and I listened to her indifferently. It was only when she told me of her complete healing through this Science that my curiosity was aroused, and I asked her to lend me the book which would explain the Principle involved in this method of cure.

I became deeply engrossed in the reading of Science and Health from the very beginning, and realized that this book was bringing me the truth, the true Science which I had vainly sought as long as I can remember. With less than a week's study came the realization that I was healed of a stubborn ailment which had seemed to be a part of myself. I had responded to this beautiful revelation of Truth so readily that the healing followed as a natural result, without any treatment from a practitioner and without special effort, but simply through reading, understanding, and prayer. Six years have elapsed since then, and during that time I have enjoyed excellent health, and have devoted myself entirely to the study of Christian Science. It is my sole guide in life, and helps me to solve the problems which present themselves every day.

Words fail to express my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, whom next to Jesus the Christ I look upon as the greatest benefactor of mankind, and my heart goes out to the faithful workers who through their constant efforts are spreading this great truth. The reading of the Bible, of the works of Mrs. Eddy, and of the Christian Science periodicals satisfies me, and brings me more joy and greater benefit than any previous study. I find in them the answer to all the questions which present themselves in daily experience. In closing I would express my profound gratitude to the good friends who presented this Science to me and who sustained and helped me while I was taking my first steps. My husband has also been benefited by Christian Science. He has been able on several occasions to overcome ailments and attacks of severe pain in a very short time through reading Science and Health.—
