Testimonies of Healing

[Translated from the German]

Before I became acquainted with...

From the January 1918 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Before I became acquainted with Christian Science I was afflicted with internal troubles, and upon the advice of the physicians had an operation performed. Instead of improving I grew weaker, however, and as a result, contracted hernia, which caused me untold suffering. I also suffered greatly with stomach trouble and was able to partake of but few kinds of food.

I was in this wretched condition when a friend took me to a Christian Science practitioner, and after the very first treatment I experienced a wonderful relief from pain caused by the hernia, and was able to eat everything I cared for without bad results. I was so happy and grateful to God that I immediately destroyed all my material remedies, and since that time have set my trust on God alone; and whenever I have asked for help prayerfully and in the right spirit, I have invariably experienced it.

About a year after becoming acquainted with Christian Science I fell down the stairs and was jammed in such a way as to require the efforts of two men to release me. I cried out to God to help me, and did experience His help, for instead of being severely injured, as those around me thought and said I was, I thank God that I was entirely unhurt. During these ten years we have found it to be true that, "man's extremity is God's opportunity."
