When I read of a fatality resulting from a child swallowing the acid in a golf ball, I felt that I had not done my part in telling others how Christian Science is to-day proving the statement made by Christ Jesus, which is given in the last chapter of Mark's gospel, "If they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them."
Three years ago our daughter, then nine years old, was playing with an old golf ball. It exploded, and the acid was forced down her throat —some of it getting on her face. She came screaming into the house and began rinsing her mouth out with water. When I realized what had taken place my husband went at once across the street to a Christian Science practitioner and asked for help. We declared the truth as best we knew; but fear seemed to have me bound. We asked the practitioner to come to us and he did. In an hour's time she was safe,—as we learned afterward. We all went to bed that night and slept, only being disturbed a few times.
She was back at school that week, and although there seemed to be a disturbed stomach condition for four weeks, after the first week her appetite was good and she ate anything she wished. Her healing was complete when our fear that she had swallowed some portion of the ball was overcome, but all the parts of the ball were found. I could not have trusted the problem to anyone but God, and I feel sure that therein lay our only possible help. Although our parents lived in the same town and were at our house daily, aside from knowing that she was not feeling just right, it was six weeks before they knew of the nature of the accident. Then every manifestation was gone. To-day she is a strong, healthy young girl, above the normal, as compared with physical standards. We often thank God that we knew enough of Christian Science to turn to God for help.
