JUST ten years ago I was examined...

From the March 1919 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Just ten years ago I was examined by three physicians, one of whom was at that time head of the Antituberculosis Society of the state of Michigan. I was pronounced tubercular by all of these physicians and was told that it would be necessary for me to live in southern California. It was thought that after a number of years spent in this climate I might be able to return to my home in the middle West. Shortly after arriving in California I went to a Christian Science practitioner, and in one treatment was healed of this trouble and all its evidences with the exception of the cough. Since the disease had been healed it was evident that the cough could be nothing but habit, and when realized as such it, too, soon vanished. Having been restored to my rightful condition of health, I wished to return to my work in the middle West. Parents and relatives objected, however, and in order to secure permission to go I was thoroughly examined by a physician of their own choosing. After an examination which took almost two weeks I was pronounced entirely healthy, fit, and normal in every way; consequently, instead of spending years in California I returned home, and in less than a month was again at work in the East.

In the ten years which have since passed, the nature of my work has made it necessary for me to submit to frequent physical examinations. I recall five additional examinations in this period at intervals of about two years, in some of which a special effort was made to find some evidence of tubercular disease. In every case, however, I have been pronounced healthy and normal, without a trace of it. Since my healing, Christian Science has been studied daily and has been relied upon to supply all needs. I know that there is no situation, circumstance, or condition which cannot be made harmonious through the application of its teachings.

I am very grateful to Mrs. Eddy. The more one knows of the life of this wonderful woman and the more one studies her writings, the greater must be the gratitude and the deeper the love for our revered Leader, who first experienced God's healing power and then gave this truth to the world. —
