Testimonies of Healing

In the fall of 1913 I was stricken...

From the September 1919 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the fall of 1913 I was stricken with a severe attack of eye trouble, and my sight was so poor that I was found to be a nuisance in school, for I could not read or write. One of the best specialists in the city said he would cure me by the first of the next year. In the meanwhile I had to wear two pairs of glasses, suffer from many treatments, and lose all that time from school. Three and four times a week I went to him for treatment. The expense was enormous, and I seemed to get no relief. Finally we asked the doctor if I would not soon be cured, as it was past the promised time; but after a thorough examination he said I was worse than ever, that I would never be able to go to school again and in time would become blind.

I came home heartsick, feeling as though my whole life was ruined; but the Supreme One was with me, and guided me safely into Christian Science. A boy friend had been very sick and I noticed that he was suddenly cured, so my mother immediately went to see who the good doctor was. We were told of Christian Science and at once made arrangements to see a practitioner. After one treatment my sight became normal, and all the school work that I had lost was afterwards successfully made up.

I owe a great debt of gratitude to Christian Science, for it has helped me in sickness, in literary undertakings, and when I was alone and needed the help of our great protector, divine Love.—
