I have such a feeling of freedom...

From the February 1920 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have such a feeling of freedom, and peace, and happiness, all of which I owe to Christian Science, that it would indeed be ungrateful of me longer to withhold my testimony. I came to America as a young girl, and not knowing the English language I became very self-conscious whenever it was necessary for me to talk. When I was able to speak English more correctly, this trouble left me to a certain extent, but it returned after some years and became worse as time went on, so that it made me extremely nervous to meet people.

When we became interested in Christian Science and had experienced many benefits through its study and application, I tried for months at Wednesday evening meetings to express my thanks to God and my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, but I seemed unable to overcome this fear of criticism. Great, indeed, was my rejoicing when at last, forgetting self, I was able to speak clearly for a few minutes before the congregation. Since then all timidity has left me. Christian Science has been our only physician for nearly five years. It was taken up in a more or less desultory way, more through curiosity than for any special healing, and though we appreciated the benefits received through the application of its teachings I often wondered if I would stand the test when great trials came. I am glad to say that though such trials have come they have been met and overcome through the knowledge and application of the law of Love.

About a year ago an attack was made upon my husband and might have been fatal had it not been for God's protection, which is ever present. In the morning, during a few minutes of spare time, he was prompted to take up the Bible, which opened at the seventieth psalm and he read it several times. When a few hours later the attack was made, the truth was instantly realized. Christian Science treatment was asked for and after four days he was able to attend to his business as usual. In one week the wounds were healed and the scars disappearing. No disinfectants or bandages were used. For this healing I am grateful. A few months later my husband was taken sick, and if materia medica had been resorted to he would no doubt have been operated on and in bed for weeks. Under Christian Science treatment there was hardly any loss of time from business.
