I had my first healing in Christian Science in February of 1914, and since then have had many proofs of the great truth that all pain is purely mental, caused by a belief in an existence apart from God. I was healed of severe nausea during pregnancy, and when I was later delivered of twins it was almost entirely without pain. When my babies were playing together one day the little girl scratched the boy in the eye, and about a week later I noticed mucous on the iris very near the pupil of his eye, which upon examination proved to be an ulcer. I was for the time being almost overwhelmed with fear, and I upbraided myself for having examined his eye, thereby making the trouble seem more real.
I felt that I must work out the problem myself and not ask for help, so I began trying to overcome my fear, knowing that healing could come in that way. I was still worrying because I had tried to remove the blemish instead of knowing the truth, for it seemed so very real to me after I found it would not come off. Then there came a thought of good which gave me light, and I knew my baby was healed. This happened about nine o'clock in the evening, and when morning came the ulcer had gone. Then I knew what true gratitude means, and I was so grateful to Mrs. Eddy for showing us the way back to God. I have indeed many things to be thankful for, because of the loving help given me by the practitioner and nurse when my babies came, and also the literature, which is so uplifting.—Indianapolis, Ind.
