ADVERTISING AND HEALING

From the September 1920 issue of The Christian Science Journal

That Christian Science is a divine revelation can be doubted by no one who has been able to heal disease and discord through its application, or even by one who has been healed through the understanding of another. A divine revelation is in its very nature complete for the purpose to which the revelation pertains, for nothing incomplete can be of divine origin. That Christian Science is divine, that the revelation to Mary Baker Eddy of the plan by which it was to be given to the world was complete, cannot in reason be doubted by a Christian Science healer or one healed thereby, nor by any honest investigator, because the preponderance of evidence of its healing power over disease, inharmony, lack, sorrow, indeed over evil of every name or nature, is overwhelming. Throughout the length and breadth of this great land, in every country where the English language is spoken and in many countries of foreign tongue, are thousands of intelligent people who gather every Sunday to hear read the Lesson-Sermon which they have studied throughout the week, and on Wednesday evenings to testify to the innumerable benefits and healings which they have received through Christian Science—miracles to human sense—hopes renewed, homes remade, hearts made glad by the healing power of this Science of sciences.

Now Christian Science is exact Science, and halfway measures will not do in its application. Every avenue which Mrs. Eddy provided must be utilized in order that one may receive the full message. Just as no man could go far in mathematics who would attempt to use only a part of the multiplication table, so to receive the full spiritual development which Christian Science affords, one must use every channel provided by its Discoverer and Founder. Those who are in earnest in Christian Science must put on the whole armor. The Lesson-Sermon, the church services, the Wednesday evening meetings, the lectures, the periodicals,—each and every one of them,—distribution work, in fact, every activity our Leader provided had its purpose not only for the promotion of the cause of Christian Science but as vitally necessary for the growth of the individual student. Thus the neglect to avail one's self of the blessings which flow through all the channels which our Leader has provided must of necessity be costly to growth and to demonstration.

One channel for healing which the periodicals afford is found in the advertising columns of The Christian Science Monitor. When Mrs. Eddy founded the Monitor, a daily newspaper which was to carry advertising, she did that which was most quickly to carry Christian Science standards into the business world. A great international daily newspaper, international not only in viewpoint but in circulation and advertising, going into the homes of an intelligent class of people throughout the world, will quite naturally come into contact with the business organizations of a legitimate character everywhere.
