Testimonies of Healing

I desire to express my gratitude...

From the September 1920 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I desire to express my gratitude for the blessings received through Christian Science, and to testify briefly to the wonderful healing received. In October, 1914, I became ill with liver and gall trouble. I received medical aid, but in spite of all remedies given I was not healed, and my condition was constantly becoming worse. While under treatment at a bathing resort, in August and September, 1917, the treating physician advised me to give up my position, which was confining, for otherwise I could not be cured. In the summer of 1918 my condition was particularly bad, and I was obliged to remain away from my work repeatedly. As 1 was only permitted to take scant nourishment, on account of the severe pains which followed, my strength disappeared steadily and the worst was feared. My physician advised an operation, but my family objected to this, owing to my great weakness. At this time, July, 1918, a dear neighbor called my attention to Christian Science and asked me to attend a Wednesday evening meeting. Until that time I had never heard of Christian Science, consequently knew nothing of this teaching and as my wife persuaded me to try it, I did so to oblige my family. I attended the meeting, but must confess, without hope. Having listened to the reading attentively, I became a little happier, and it seemed as though the pressure upon my liver lessened. On this night such wonderful testimonies were given and I received so much confidence that I went to a practitioner, who willingly and lovingly treated me. A complete transformation began to take place. In a short time I learned to have so much confidence in the all-power of God that the sense of fear vanished completely. In November, 1918, I had another attack of colic and since that time have been free from the liver trouble, also from a tenacious bowel complaint.

I thank Christian Science for my healing and for a firm faith in God, in whom I found the great Physician. In Christian Science the truth which makes free is taught. For these proofs of divine Love I am heartily thankful to God, and with sincere gratitude I think of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who herself experienced God's healing power, and in consequence gave us this beautiful teaching. I also owe much gratitude to the practitioner through whose loving work the great transformation took place in so short a time. May my words encourage those seeking help to follow in the same path, for then God's help will not be withheld from them. I shall also try to express gratitude through striving daily to follow in the footsteps of our Master.—
