Testimonies of Healing

When I first became interested in...

From the April 1921 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When I first became interested in Christian Science it was not because I thought I wanted physical healing but because I wanted a more practical religion and a better understanding of God, both for myself and my young children; but very soon I had proofs of physical healing. I had worn glasses since I was a young girl, for a very bad form of what was believed to be inherited astigmatism. An eye specialist had told me that if I did not wear glasses continually he would not answer for my sight. If I left them off for one half hour I suffered great pain, but when, through the teaching of Christian Science, I realized that sight is spiritual perception and needs no material aids I laid the glasses aside and have not worn them since, and have never experienced any pain or inconvenience on account of having done so. On the contrary, my sight grows clearer and clearer.

I have also been healed of very bad varicose veins, having been told by the doctor that I must always wear a bandage and rest my leg after any exercise such as tennis or a long walk. I gave up the bandage about eight years ago, and although I have done a great deal of heavy work during the last five years I have never thought of resting my leg and have had no return of the trouble. For these and many other physical healings I am most grateful, but far more wonderful to me is the healing of overwhelming sorrow and despair at the sudden passing on of my husband. It seemed at first as though all joy had gone from my life, but instinctively I clung to Christian Science, and gradually the little light I had grew and grew as I realized more and more clearly that because man is never separated from God, he is therefore never separated from his brother man, and I can indeed say I have experienced that "peace of God, which passeth all understanding." Words can never express my gratitude to God and to Mrs. Eddy and to those who so lovingly and patiently guided my footsteps in those dark hours. I hope I may prove my gratitude by using in my daily life what I have learned of the truth.—
