Testimonies of Healing

I Feel it my duty to give my...

From the February 1922 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I Feel it my duty to give my testimony of God's provision for and protection of His children. One morning in January, 1920, my wife informed me that we had no more bread, and that she did not know what to give our six children to eat. But our "help cometh from the Lord;" for it is said, "Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink." We bore in mind that God is ever with us, and on my way to work I thought of how God cares for the birds, and that "they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns," and so I said to myself, "He will not forget us, either."

While at work I was ordered to run a hospital train, and as the wounded were being removed a nurse gave me a piece of bread. When he saw my joy and noticed that I did not eat it, he asked the reason, and I told him that I had no bread for my family. When he heard this he left me, returning in a short time with sufficient bread for all. Our joy was great and we thanked God for His goodness, which had been again proved to us. We have also learned that with God there are no accidents, for we have experienced His protection for His children. One evening two of my children carried their brother into the house in their arms, saying that he had fallen from the second story into the court below and onto the stone steps. My first thought was, "No! With God there is no accident," and with these words I requested the other tenants to go. To their astonishment I did not call a physician to examine the child, but put him into his bed, and explained to him that God had protected him and had given His angels charge over him. He fell asleep and had a quiet, peaceful sleep throughout the night. The following morning he awoke as usual. There were no swellings or blue spots, and to the amazement of the other tenants he played happily with his friends, just as though nothing had happened. For this I express heartfelt gratitude to God. I also thank Him that through Mrs. Eddy we have this beautiful teaching which shows us the way of truth. The more one studies Christian Science the more one realizes that God is ever present.—
