There is a beautiful sentence on...

From the February 1922 issue of The Christian Science Journal

There is a beautiful sentence on page 516 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which is as follows: "The sunlight glints from the churchdome dome glances into the prison-cell, glides into the sick-chamber, brightens the flower, beautifies the landscape blesses the earth." This passage held my attention, when studying recently, and I would like to tell why. Several years ago I attended my first Christian Science service, and that was in The Mother Church. The very next day I was healed of stomach trouble of a chronic nature. At the time I was staying directly across the street from The Mother Church and on the morning I speak of I was suffering from an attack of indigestion. I was alone, and feeling too weak to go out to see a doctor, I picked up a copy of Science and Health which was lying near by and began to read, it must have taken me over an hour to read the first chapter, but when I had finished I was not conscious of pain. Indeed, I was healed. It was nearly noon, and as I stopped reading I observed the sunlight streaming into the room; in fact, the sunlight had glanced from the church dome into the prison cell of sense and materiality and had glided into the sick chamber. The light of Truth and Love had flooded my thought and I had experienced a resurrection.

In the subsequent years I have not only desired, but have striven to attain to a demonstrable understanding of this Science, and I have found that in the exact proportion that I have left all for God, I have been successful in its demonstration. I might mention a few recent healings. In two weeks' time I was healed of eye trouble, which threatened to seriously inconvenience me in my work. I have seen the dying restored and various physical ailments healed in one treatment proving that Truth is All-in-all. As Mrs. Eddy says: "Truth, spiritually discerned, is scientifically understood. It casts out error and heals the sick" (Science and Health, p. 275). The fruits of my experience impel me to add that no one can really appreciate Mrs. Eddy without gaining some understanding of her teaching, and obeying the admonition of the apostle, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus."—
