Constant seeking for and striving to understand the things of Spirit, as revealed in Christian Science, have brought into my life a measure of peace and harmony never before experienced.
On beginning to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, through mere curiosity, the very first sentence in its Preface inspired the desire, and hope that therein I might gain an understanding of the availability of God in time of need. From my earliest memory this desire had been with me, but there seemed no other way than for me to fall as far short as had the other good Christian people with whom my lot was cast. So I had tried to live a normal life without much effort to attain anything but comfort and ease for myself and others, wondering helplessly what it was all for.
The sentence referred to above, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings" (Preface, p. vii), led me on and I read and pondered this wonderful truth to the exclusion of all other subjects. Much of it seemed beyond my comprehension but from every page flashed some gleam of truth to encourage the search and to lighten the way. Completely absorbed in my desire to know the truth about God and man, and without realizing any need of physical healing, before I had finished reading the textbook the first time I was greatly astonished to find myself entirely free from a bowel trouble considered chronic, and of which I had never expected to be healed. This healing was not attributed to my reading till some time later when I had gained a clearer understanding of the cause and cure of disease.
