Testimonies of Healing

I should like to add my testimony...

From the February 1922 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I should like to add my testimony to the many helpful ones that appear in the Journal and Sentinel. My first healing, of stomach trouble, was accomplished by just reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy. I knew very little of Christian Science at the time of this healing, so it was not my understanding that healed me. It was the willingness to turn from the belief of life in matter to Spirit. This healing led me to take up the study of Christian Science in earnest. Some time later I had an opportunity to prove intelligently the supremacy of Spirit. This was a slow healing, for which I can truthfully say I am grateful. It gave me an opportunity to prove God's law step by step and to overcome a belief of material law. I asked for help from a practitioner two or three times during the progress of this healing and each time I grasped an idea on which to work.

The most persistent phase of the physical ills was palpitation of the heart. On page 295 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy says: "God creates and governs the universe, including man. The universe is filled with spiritual ideas, which He evolves, and they are obedient to the Mind that makes them." It then was clear to me that man as idea was properly controlled by Mind and the suppositional mortal mind could not interfere with nor overthrow God's law. The heart attacks grew less and less frequent until they ceased, and the sweet assurance came to me that I was healed. I was never once tempted to turn to material remedies of any sort nor to lose faith in the power of the right understanding of God to heal me, for it was proved to me that it was sick thought and not a sick body that needed to be healed.

I have been studying Christian Science for a number of years, during which time I am happy to say it has met my every need. I am also grateful for our literature. It is a blessing, for many times when working out a problem I have found an article in the Journal, the Sentinel. or the Monitor that has met my need. I am thankful to Mrs. Eddy for our textbook, which unlocks the Scriptures and makes applicable to-day the lessons which Jesus taught in his untiring efforts in demonstrating the word of Truth, and the knowledge that God is ever present and never fails us.—
