I hope my testimony may help some one else as testimonies related by others have aided me in my search for truth and light. In 1893 the doctors declared I must undergo an operation for internal tumor. At this time Christian Science help was first suggested to me by a friend; but I was a member of a church and very devoted to my religious beliefs, and when I mentioned Christian Science to my pastor he most emphatically warned me against it, assuring me it was the work of the evil one. I therefore made no further investigations at that time, but allowed the doctors to perform the operation. During the following seventeen years I submitted to seven major and minor operations, but with no beneficial results. Through these years of suffering I was trusting God to the best of my understanding, but I did not know God, because I believed that He sent affliction as well as blessings to His children.
After an operation for varicose veins, my limb was put in a cast; and finally the doctor declared there was a decayed condition in the bones, and that amputation was absolutely necessary. I refused to listen to this and my thoughts again turned toward Christian Science, although I knew nothing about its methods or teachings. I prayed earnestly for light and guidance; and this extremity proved to be indeed God's opportunity. While I was praying, a "still small voice" seemed to assure me that I was healed. I felt it was an answer to my prayer, and I was so happy I got out of bed and walked to the telephone, something I had not done for weeks without help. I called up a friend who knew of my suffering and told her my prayer for healing had been answered. She asked me if I would not like to see a Christian Science practitioner. I replied I would like to know more about Christian Science; and a practitioner called and told me of the blessed truth Christ Jesus taught. In three days the cast I had worn for nearly two weeks Was removed, and my limb was perfectly healed.
After this wonderful healing I failed to keep up my study and the application of Christian Science, and a year and a half later error returned in the form of a fluid sac around the knee. My husband became very much alarmed and insisted upon an operation. I was very reluctant to resort to this, as I knew it would not do any good; however, I again submitted to the surgeon's knife, although at the same time I declared the truth the best I could with the slight understanding I had. The wounds all healed but one, which remained open; and again the doctors insisted upon amputation, and again I came to God for help, this time keeping my own counsel and informing no one. After I had had Christian Science treatments for two weeks, my husband, noticing the improvement in my condition without amputation, asked me if I had turned to Christian Science again. As soon as my fear was destroyed I was perfectly healed and have remained so. I was also healed of apoplexy, appendicitis, and constipation, as well as of an injury to a knee cap which had resulted in an abscess. It was fully healed without pain by the application of the truth.
