About six or seven years ago through a friend I was given some Christian Science literature, among which was a copy or copies of the Sentinel. I read there testimonies of healing through Christian Science which seemed to me very remarkable, and I saw also that the other articles in the magazines were very ably written and were evidently the work of sane, intelligent, thinking human beings; and so I concluded that these testimonies must be true. I continued to read the literature which was supplied to me.
About this time I was suffering from bilious attacks. I had applied for medical aid, had followed instructions as to physical exercise, and had taken the drugs prescribed, but found that the attacks were only becoming more alarmingly frequent and regular. One morning when the usual symptoms of the attack were making their appearance, I applied what little truth I had learned from the Christian Science literature I had studied and was successful in warding off the attack. I have never had a bilious attack since.
Later when suffering from a nervous breakdown I was led to apply for treatment to a Christian Science practitioner. This treatment was very lovingly and kindly given. As I was unable to continue my work I had to obtain a medical certificate from a doctor. Drugs were again prescribed, and my family were told that my condition necessitated for me a lengthened stay in the country. As my relatives knew nothing of Christian Science I found it necessary to go from home, but I took with me a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which was kindly lent me by a friend. At the end of my train journey I found that the largest of my medicine bottles had emptied itself into my bag. Since that time I have never had any desire to use drugs of any kind. I studied the textbook daily and in a fortnight I was at home. I returned to my work at once, after a month's absence altogether.
