In the second chapter of I Peter we read, "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light." These words seem to urge me to give the following testimony.
When in my forty-sixth year I discovered I was unable to digest almost any food. I was afflicted with noises in my head day and night, also a want of balance, either sitting or standing, and sickness with overpowering headache, all of which caused me to be in a very nervous condition. Our family doctor did all that he could for me; then a specialist was consulted. The verdict was "Meniere's disease of the head" and neurasthenia. Tonics were of no avail, so I was advised to find out what suited me and go on with that. For nine years I struggled on. Then the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, was given me. I certainly benefited by reading it, but the shock of my son being killed in France in 1917 caused a complete breakdown.
My condition was distressing, two specialists were consulted, and again we were told I was suffering from the same diseases. I was advised to go to the country, which I did, and had treatment from a Christian Science practitioner. The first improvement was the overcoming of sick headaches. Then the head noises calmed down, gradually the fear lessened, and I began to walk through the house. The bath chair was discarded, and now I can walk out comfortably and undertake many household duties, for which I can never be too thankful.
