Testimonies of Healing

Before accepting Christian Science,...

From the August 1922 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Before accepting Christian Science, I was a constant sufferer from what physicians named ulceration of the stomach; and for several years I was under the constant care of the very best specialists. I was assured I could not be healed; but that I could, while I lived, enjoy comparative comfort, provided I strictly obeyed the rules prescribed by the doctor. I also suffered from violent headaches, which doctors said were caused by the stomach condition. At the time when I decided to try Christian Science, I was taking from three to five doses of medicine daily. I had not had an action of the bowels for five years without medicine or local treatment. I never resorted to any of these agencies, except on the order of the doctors. They were men of high repute in and out of their profession; and I believe they were conscientious in everything they ordered me to do. I believe that I was, from their standpoint, in a condition close to hopeless.

My first step in Christian Science was to take treatment; and my engagement was at twenty minutes past four in the afternoon. I left the practitioner's office at about five o'clock, completely healed of these difficulties. I have never had a dose of medicine since; and the headaches are but memories. It is now about eight years since this healing.

I was not induced by this to take up Christian Science, however. Along with the stomach condition, I had been also suffering, according to the doctors, with cancer of the nose. For this, I had been treated by two other specialists in that branch of the profession. I received no benefit whatever. It was at this point that I sought the aid of Christian Science, and it was this that caused me to do so. For some reason I was not healed of this cancer under the treatments of the first practitioner; although I had been instantaneously healed of the ulcerated stomach trouble in the first treatment. This practitioner volunteered the advice that I go to some one else; which I did. This disease proved to be very stubborn, and subjected me to a great many very trying situations. It was, however, fully and completely healed. Not one shade or shadow of material remedy was at any time employed in the healing, after I first applied for Christian Science treatments.
