Testimonies of Healing

Many years ago, the beautiful...

From the August 1922 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Many years ago, the beautiful teaching of Christian Science was brought to my notice by a dear friend. I found it was the truth for which I had long been seeking. It appealed to me at once as being practical and demonstrable. I had always believed in the healing power of the Christ; and to find a church which taught a definite healing Principle was a great joy to me. Since then, I have had innumerable blessings and proofs, not only of physical healing, but of the power of Truth to destroy any discordant condition that comes into one's life. Again and again, I have seen the results of accidents and loss destroyed, and financial difficulties met, by the understanding of the allness of God.

Personally, I have overcome much physical weakness and fear. Before coming into Christian Science I had constant attacks of influenza, which would last several weeks, leaving me very low and exhausted. Now, this trouble is very quickly met; and neuralgia, from which I was a great sufferer, has been entirely overcome. But more and more the gratitude grows for the enlarged understanding of God as divine Love; for the knowledge that when we reflect the divine nature, and express love and compassion, we gain a realization of what Mrs. Eddy teaches when she says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." It is only when looking back over the years that we realize along what a wonderful way we have traveled, and how much we have gained. I am especially grateful for the experiences of the past two years, during which I have proved so constantly the omnipresence and omnipotence of God. Coming from England to settle in Canada shortly after the war, the difficulties seemed insurmountable; but Love has never failed. And as one problem after another has been solved, the inward assurance and quiet confidence gained of the supremacy of Spirit are beyond all words to express.

I would like to testify to the beautiful healing of my mother, who was very ill last summer and seemed about to pass on. I had been trying to realize the truth for her for some days, but with no result. One afternoon, I felt impelled to go away from the appearance of error; and, whilst walking by the lake side, I just held to the omnipotence of God, until I felt a great assurance that all was well. Returning, however, there seemed to be no change. Knowing that the work was done, however, all fear left me; and that night I had a deep, refreshing sleep. The next morning I awoke to find my mother practically well; and she greatly rejoiced us all by taking her place with us at table that day. It truly was a wonderful healing.
