Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 570), writes, "Those ready for the blessing you impart will give thanks." The following testimony is given in overflowing thanks for the blessings that have come to me and' mine during the past twelve years, through the ministrations of Christian Science.
Three years ago, while crossing Michigan Boulevard, I was knocked down by an automobile, breaking and badly twisting my leg, and crushing my eyeglasses on my face. I was at once taken to an emergency hospital, but having regained consciousness I asked that a Christian Science practitioner be called. The response was immediate: I had a perfect sense of peace, even joy, in the consciousness of God's presence and power. I experienced no sense of pain or discomfort of any kind when the surgeon set the bone and made the statement, "You must have another X-ray within a few days, the limb put in a cast, and kept there for at least seven weeks." While cleansing my face of soil and broken glass the remark was made: "I wonder if you know how lucky you are; not a particle of glass has penetrated the eye, but it will be black for a long time." This was at once reported to the practitioner; and two days later there was not a trace of injury to the eye.
In a few hours after being taken to the hospital, I was removed to the home of a Christian Science nurse, and, later, to my own home. Although the ligaments were badly twisted, and under the laws of medical practice should have been very painful, only twice did we have to call for special help on account of pain; and on each occasion, in ten minutes I was sleeping peacefully. At the end of the first week, my husband removed the temporary splint, and in eight weeks I was doing my own housework, although having to go up and down stairs many times each day.
