In 1918 my husband and I were spending the winter in St. Louis, Missouri. While there I had blood-poisoning in my foot. The foot became very much inflamed, and the pain was so severe I would cry, and could work for myself in Science but a few moments at a time. I could not tell where the pain was most severe: the whole limb was very painful. Two days and one night I suffered, and no relief came; and the second night I was suffering so much I could not rest for one moment. At last, at two o'clock, the thought came to me of our Lesson-Sermon that week, which told how Jesus walked along the road to Emmaus with two of his disciples. I seemed to forget myself completely, and walked along beside him. I seemed to hear him say, "What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?" Well, I kept on listening to him until he left his two disciples, and they departed to go to the other disciples. Then I came to myself, and saw I had been two hours with Christ my Saviour. I was entirely healed; and I arose and looked at my foot. All swelling had disappeared, and there was no more pain.
I can never be grateful enough to God and to Mrs. Eddy for the great gift of Christian Science. I pray God that I may grow in grace, and have that Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus."— Iowa City, Iowa.
