In the year 1919, while in Switzerland, I became acquainted with a Christian Science practitioner. I had always been ill, and my wife suffered from a lame leg, which for years we had tried to have cured by various means. She also had some abdominal trouble. My earnings were very small, and I had to support a large family, one of whom was not normal. I am even this day firmly convinced that God had brought me by wonderful ways to Christian Science, although at times they were beset by thistles and thorns. After I had grasped the teaching of Christian Science, both my wife and our little son were suddenly healed without an operation. My despondency changed into a bright peace, and now I have no fear or anxiety that I shall lack the necessities of existence; for the light of God shines on our path.
Our twelve-year-old boy was caught in a machine and his scalp partially torn off. Everybody thought he was dead when I took him in my arms. The wound on his head was eleven inches long; but to the great astonishment of the doctor the child experienced no pain when the wound was being washed out and the hair cut off. The following day the boy was up and doing as usual. At another time I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner, and an abscess on the neck, as well as the spotted typhus which the doctor feared would develop, disappeared, to the great surprise of the doctor. Both he and the nurse had to leave without having used their operating instruments and the bottle containing the anæsthetic. I was overawed at seeing Truth and the love of God so near. To Him belongs the glory!— Seiferdau, Schlesien, Germany.
