THE OPEN DOOR

From the October 1924 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Stand still," O restless one and tossed
About by fears and tempest's roar.
Stand still, and see salvation nigh
And close at hand the open door
Of Faith.

Enter this portal, royal, free,
And seek therein thyself anew;
Health, happiness, and home for aye,
A life becalmed, an anchor true
Of Hope.

And entered here, close fast the gate
Of thought; and trusting, conscious be
That God is All, and you His child,
Reflecting clear the purity
Of Love.

Then opens out a vista grand
Dispelling fast the Adam dream,
And shows through pastures green and fair
God's city with its crystal stream
Of Life.

Press forward, eager pilgrim, nor
Let backward glance bring back the day
Of phantoms; but with gratitude
Sing praises to have found the way
Of Truth,

Which leads to Principle, divine,
And man, His image,—good revealed,—
Ne'er fallen, but through all time pure,
And bearing in his forehead, sealed,
The name of God.
