FEEDING THE SHEEP

From the October 1924 issue of The Christian Science Journal

ONE wonders whether in these days the thoughts of men turn often enough in gratitude to God for all the good with which He is constantly blessing them. In Psalms a verse reads, "Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing;" and in Proverbs we find, "The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish." The ancient question, "Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?" has been answered; for Christian Science shows how mankind may be supplied with every good thing through the understanding of spiritual Truth.

Christian Science, the religion of Truth and Love, discovered and founded by Mary Baker Eddy more than fifty years ago, is obeying the command of the Master, Christ Jesus, "Feed my sheep." It is the only agency in the world to-day which is thoroughly fulfilling that command, given to Peter, but intended for every one of the Master's followers throughout all time. The call was to feed the hungry hearts with the understanding of spiritual Truth, with the "bread from heaven," the knowledge of divine Love.

Not infrequently Christ Jesus urged upon his disciples the necessity of choosing Spirit rather than matter. Do you love the Christ more than material things? he often queried. As in our Master's time, so to-day Mrs. Eddy asks this pertinent question in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with 'Key to the Scriptures" (p. 9): "Are you willing to leave all for Christ, for Truth, and so be counted among sinners?"
