Christian Science came to me in answer to prayer for light and guidance, while I was teaching in a denominational Sunday school. I had been much distressed at the seeming inconsistency of the Bible, though I had been a student of it for years; but through the study of Christian Science I was able to understand the true nature of God and apply the truth by taking God at His word. The Bible became more than interesting ancient history: it showed me the Christ.
During my first great joy at this revelation I was healed of a broken hip, proving, much to the doctor's astonishment, that the laws of time and lameness, which had been pronounced, were null and void. I pondered much over the verse in Isaiah, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee." As I learned how to stay my mind on God, I was completely healed within a very short time, there being absolutely no shortage of the limb and no after effects. A prominent surgeon of our city declared it to be a remarkable recovery, and said he could only attribute it to my disposition! Little did he know how wonderfully that had been changed by the reading of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
There have been other beautiful and quick healings,—of the wearing of glasses, ptomaine poisoning, and influenza. My son, a boy at school, was healed of spinal meningitis within twenty-four hours, when there was great fear of death. Demonstrations have been made over losses, in law suits, and over a sense of financial lack or limitation.
